LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State freshman hurdler Devin Brooks placed first and set a new school record during her college début in the 55-meter hurdles at the Texas Tech Invitational, Friday, Jan. 18 in Lubbock, Texas.

Brooks posted a time of 8.31, surpassing Carrie Wilbourn's record of 8.41 which was set 13 years ago. She also placed ninth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.27. This mark places her sixth on the all-time list.

Assistant coach Paul Harkins was pleased with Brook's performance as well as others on the squad.

"It's a great achievement to set a new school record in her first college race, she is a strong competitor" Harkins said. "Brooks works really hard and it pays off, but we know there is a lot more in her."

Senior hurdler Lillian Lewis (El Paso, Texas) placed fifth in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.48, but ran a time of 8.29 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals.
