NMSU And Akron Schedule Football Series For 2020 And 2022

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team and the Akron have signed a home-and-home series for the 2020 and 2022 seasons Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced.

The first meeting between the Aggies and Zips is scheduled for Sept. 12, 2020, at Aggie Memorial Stadium. NM State then makes the return trip to InfoCision Stadium in 2022 for an Oct. 1 battle.

New Mexico State trails the all-time series 1-0 with the only lone meeting occurring in 1988 in favor of Akron.

New Mexico State is set to open its 2019 schedule with a pair of road contests. The Aggies kick-off the 2019 season in Pullman, Wash., against Washington State followed by the defending National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 7.

Jamin Smith Named 2018 Pervis Atkins Spirit Award Recipient

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State head football coach Doug Martin named senior offensive lineman Jamin Smith the winner of the fifth annual Pervis Atkins Spirit Award on Wednesday. The award was created to honor former NM State great and College Football Hall of Famer Pervis Atkins, who played for the 1960 undefeated Aggies.

This award was created by Charlie Rogers, a close friend of the Atkins' family, and his former New Mexico State teammates. The 2017 award recipients were selected by Martin and his coaching staff based on the characteristics that Atkins exemplified while he was an Aggie, including leadership and being a champion on and off the field.  Continue Reading This Post >>

NMSU Football To Play At UCLA In 2020

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State and UCLA have signed a deal that’ll see the Aggies take on the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl on zero week in 2020 Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced Thursday.

“Playing on zero week is great for exposure and motivates players all summer,” head football coach Doug Martin said. “We look forward to playing against a historic program like UCLA.”

This will be the second meeting between the Aggies and Bruins all-time. The two programs met on the gridiron back in 2013 in Martin’s first year at the helm in Pasadena, Calif., with NM State falling to UCLA.

The 2017 NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl Champion New Mexico State Aggies gear up for the 2018 campaign as it entertains the Wyoming Cowboys at 8 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, Aug. 25, in a nationally televised game on ESPN2.

NMSU Football Signs Home And Home With Central Michigan For 2019 And 2026

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The New Mexico State football team and Central Michigan University have signed a home-and-home contract to square off in 2019 and 2026, Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced on Friday.

“I have a lot of experience playing in the MAC while at Kent State and know that Central Michigan has a tremendous program with great tradition,” said NM State head football coach Doug Martin. “They have always been a really good program that will make for a great home-and-home matchup.”

The first meeting in history between the Aggies and Chippewas is scheduled for Oct. 12, 2019 at Kelly Shorts Stadium. The Crimson & White then play host to CMU on Sept. 5, 2026 at Aggie Memorial Stadium.  Continue Reading This Post >>
