LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State volleyball player, senior Kim Oguh earned All-American honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) when the all-American teams were announced, Wednesday, Dec. 12.
This was the third straight year Oguh (El Paso, Hanks HS) earned all-American honors and is the first to earn that honor three consecutive seasons. She earned first-team all-region honors last week, along with junior Amber Simpson (Quincy, Ill.) who was named to the honorable mention all-region team.
"This is obviously an honor and I never imagined this could happen," Oguh said. "Three consecutive all-American honors is something I never expected and it's great to end my career on such a high note."
Oguh, a 2007 first team All-WAC selection, finished the year with 376 kills (3.33/g), and a team leading 141 total blocks (1.25/g). She was fourth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .325 hitting percentage. Oguh also had 36 service aces on the year. Head coach Mike Jordan was pleased to work with a student-athlete like Oguh and is proud of all her accomplishments.
"We're very proud Kim and she had a fantastic career," head coach Mike Jordan said. "There are few players that have ever been first team all-region region three straight years, and I'm especially proud at what she did this year with new, young, inexperienced setters. She was still able to lead the team and perform match after match."
Oguh was also named to the all-tournament teams in the Hilton Garden NAU Invitational, Aug. 25, and at the Ameritas Players Challenge in Lincoln, Neb., Sept 8.
This is the 27th annual All-America team and the fifth year the AVCA has had an honorable mention category.
