HONOLULU, HI - The New Mexico State baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game series 14-2 in seven innings to Hawai'i at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu, Hawai'i, Friday, May 4.

With the loss NM State falls to 30-16 on the year and 7-4 in Western Athletic Conference play while the Rainbows go to 27-18 overall and 7-4 in league play to tie for first in the standings.

UH jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings but NM State cut the lead in half when junior Cody Edwards hammered a solo home run over the right field wall, his sixth of the season. It seemed like it would be a close game until NM State pitchers three batters in the fourth and tallied an error to help the Rainbows score four runs in the bottom of the third and take a 6-1 lead.

After the Aggies went down 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth Hawai'i would cross the plate six times with the assistance of three walks, two wild pitches and four hits. The Aggie pitching staff and Aggie defense struggled all night as there were three hit batters, eight walks, two errors and four unearned runs.

Tonight marks the fourth run rule against in the last six meetings between the two teams, although the Aggies have posted two of those run rules defeating Hawai'i by scores of 18-8 and 24-3 in 2011.

NM State faces Hawai'i, Saturday, May 5 at 6:35p.m. (MT) to see who gains the lead in the WAC.
