It's been a tough two nights for WAC basketball as it relates to sizing up against our Mountain West Conference rivals, in this case our in-state rivals. Utah State lost to Utah by one point last night 68-67 and Nevada lost to UNLV 88-75 after leading by 12 points with 14:47 left in the second half. And of course on Tuesday night the Aggies lost 97-87 to our in-state rival UNM.

The Aggie volleyball team is off this week as they prepare for the WAC Tournament which gets underway on Monday. The Aggies have a first round bye and will play on Tuesday. Meanwhile, more recruiting news is trickling in as the El Paso Times' Aaron Bracamontes reports that Franklin HS standout Rocio Gutierrez has signed with the Aggies. Gutierrez is a 5'10" outside hitter and is averaging 5.2 kills per set and is hitting .404 during the 2009-2010 season. She's also averaging 5.9 digs per set.
Gutierrez joins Coppell High standouts Dierdre Pajares and Shelby Tamura.

Tomorrow is your last chance to have lunch with Aggie head football coach DeWayne Walker this season. Coach Walker has held a Friday luncheon before each home game this season and with this being the final home game of the season, this is also the final luncheon of the season. The luncheon starts at noon and will be held at Eddie's Bar and Grill at the Days Inn on Avenida de Mesilla (next to the Wal-Mart). Call (575) 646-2569 for more information.

Finally, congratulations to the Aggie athletic department and all the Aggie student-athletes. The 2009 Graduation Success Rate reports were released yesterday and the NM State athletic department saw an increase in their GSR from 72 to 74 percent. Just down the road in El Paso, UTEP's GSR jumped from 61 to 69 percent.
