The Aggie volleyball team picked up a crucial five set victory last night over visiting Idaho on Senior Night. The Aggies all but secured the 2-seed in the upcoming WAC tournament. Idaho still has matches against San Jose State, Hawai'i and Boise State. Two of those three matches are potential losses for the Vandals (with the match against Hawai'i an almost certain loss). The Aggies close out the regular season with a pair of tough road matches against an improved Fresno State squad and a Nevada team that always gets up to play the Aggies.
The Aggies overcame a stunning first set defeat after leading 8-1 and then 21-16 and rallied to win sets two and three by wide margins. After Idaho claimed set four in a back and forth battle, the Aggies held on for a 15-13 set five victory after leading 9-3.
New Mexico State and Idaho are almost certain to earn the two and three seeds which could set up a rematch in the semifinals. Considering the two highly competitive matches the two teams have played during the regular season, it could be the match of the tournament.
