The Aggie soccer team continues to play great defense in defeat. The Aggies allowed just one goal in their match against North Texas yesterday. The goal came in the 21st minute of the match but unfortunately for the Aggies it was the only goal scored in the match as they fell 1-0.
The Aggies attempted seven shots and all seven were shots on goal. Last week's heroine Crystal Burns took two shots, defender Baili Foutz took two shots and Lauren Cope, Jazmin Cardosa and Courtney Irwin each attempted one. North Texas took 22 shots but just nine were shots on goal.
One interesting stat from yesterday's match is that the seven Aggies played the full 90 minutes compared to just two for North Texas. The Aggies used three subs while North Texas used a total of eight. Coach Needham mentioned in our interview with him last week that teams in the Top 25, Top 50 even through the Top 100 in RPI can go 16 to 18 players deep allowing them to substitute in waves of fresh players which allows them to constantly attack their opponents.
The Aggies return to action on Friday afternoon in Pueblo, Colo. as they take on the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves. CSU-Pueblo dropped their season opening match to Washburn University 4-1 on Saturday.

It appears as though former Aggie head coach Reggie Theus is back in the NBA, this time as an assistant (H/T to Juan). He's headed to Minnesota and will be on the staff of new Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis. He joins Bill Laimbeer on the staff.

We're just six days away from the start of the 2009 Aggie football season! Coach Walker has named junior college transfer Jeff Fleming as the team's starter at quarterback for the season opener against Idaho (H/T Teddy Feinberg of the Las Cruces Sun-News). Fleming is the more mobile of the two quarterbacks. It will be interesting to see the new offense in action. There will certainly be less passing from the Aggies this season and a more balanced attack. That being said, the Aggies will still have to be able to throw the ball effectively to avoid opponents sticking seven or eight guys in the box to stop the run game.
