The Daily Aggie :: 08/08/09

The Aggie volleyball team gets fall practice officially underway today with the start of two-a-days. The Aggies were picked to finish 2nd in the WAC behind perennial favorite Hawai'i. Despite losing four key seniors the Aggies finished just seven points behind Hawai'i in the preseason Coaches poll and received one first place vote. We'll have coverage from today's first day of practice.

The Aggie football team completed day three of their practices yesterday. Teddy Feinberg of the Las Cruces Sun-News blogged his thoughts on the day's practice. We only saw about the last 30 to 45 minutes of practice but we did see a couple of nice plays by the receivers.

One other quick note about this year's fall camp. In the past few seasons the Aggies have traveled to Gallup, N.M. for camp but that will not be the case this year. The Aggies will remain in Las Cruces for the entire fall camp.

Coach Walker was interviewed on the Petros and Money Show (originating in Los Angeles) and was asked various questions about the team including the quarterback position. According to the interview (which you can listen to here) Jeff Fleming is the team's starter for now. Coach Walker also felt very positively about his defensive unit. He also stated that he felt that the coaching staff he put together is good enough to coach in the Pac 10 (and early returns would indicate that he and his coaching staff would fit in in any conference).

We're excited to welcome Aggie Director of Football Operations Juan Lozano to bleedCrimson.net. Juan writes the Aggie Football e-mail newsletter (which is a rousing success) and he has agreed to allow us to simulcast the newsletter here at bleedCrimson.net. Juan released a newsletter yesterday which you can read here.
