Our man Brian at The College Baseball Blog reports that the NCAA may be reconsidering adding a week to the beginning of the 2010 baseball season. The Associated Press article also reports that the NCAA may be reconsidering the addition of sand volleyball as an NCAA sponsored sport.
The College World Series will crown a champion this week as top seed Texas and 3-seed LSU. It will also mark the first time in several years that the national champion will be a nationally seeded team (with unseeded Fresno State winning in 2008 and unseeded Oregon State going back to back in 2006 and 2007). LSU has rolled through the competition and is 8-0 heading into the championship series. Texas on the other hand has had to scratch and claw in each round despite being the No. 1 overall seed. They survived the 25 inning epic against Boston College in the Austin Regional and then the next day had to rally from down four runs in the 9th inning against Army. They had to survive a game three against in-state rival TCU in the Super Regionals and then have had two late inning one run victories in bracket play of the CWS.
