Aggie fans circle these dates on your calendars. The University of Hawai'i has released their 2009 schedule and dates for the matchup that fans look forward to every year have been set. The Aggies will host the Wahine in Las Cruces on Saturday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. MT and will then travel to Honolulu to face the Wahine on Saturday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. HT (all times subject to change).
The Aggies and Wahine split the regular season series in 2008 with each team winning on the others' home court via a sweep. The two teams went on to share the regular season title with the Aggies earning the No. 1 seed in the WAC tournament. Both New Mexico State and Hawai'i earned NCAA Tournament bids with the Aggies winning their first ever NCAA tournament match, defeating St. Mary's 3-1 while Hawai'i advanced to the Regional finals where they lost to national runner-up Stanford.
The Aggies graduated four seniors, outside hitter Lindsey Yon, middle blocker Amber Simpson, setter Alyssa Gintant and libero Krystal Torres. Also departing the program was assistant coach Ashley Hardee who took over the North Dakota volleyball program. The Aggies will be led by seniors-to-be Kelli Goodan, Erin Birmingham and Krista Altermatt as well as sophomore-to-be Jennah DeVries. Head Coach Mike Jordan will be joined by new assistant coach Don Flora as well as returning assistant coach Stevi Adams-Maytubby.
