Onto the Semi-Finals

First off, I'd like to say how wonderful it is to have the ability to watch the tournament online. It's great. I actually watched a bit of volleyball yesterday - thanks to my rebate card from Verizon! I checked out the Idaho/Nevada match and then the Utah St/San Jose match. I grabbed dinner and settled down for the Aggie/Fresno match.

Now, I would like to state for the official record that the camera angle leaves so much to be desired. There's a reason most folks don't sit at the end of the court. Perhaps next year, WAC TV can re-assess things and maybe bring in another camera. We don't need close ups of the players - just a better angle.

My set up last night had the WAC TV feed up with the live stats from the UH website in another window because WAC TV didn't show the score. Maybe WAC TV could splurge a little more for some graphics next year as well. I listened to Kyle D a bit but his broadcast was about :90 behind the action I was seeing online.

Having said that, it's hard to really judge how the Ladies did last night. Statistics can only give you so much of the picture. From what I saw, they played well. The 3rd match was a little bit of a nailbiter but, in the end, the Aggies came out on top. Fresno definitely looked like they did their homework on us - moreso than usual.

Yes, I stayed up for the Hawaii/Boise match. No surprises there. Actually, there weren't really any major surprises for me yesterday. It played out as I imagined. I didn't make a call on the Utah St/San Jose St match because, with them being ranked 4 and 5, I call them evenly matched.

Tonight, we'll see Hawaii and Idaho, then our Aggies taking on San Jose State at 8pm local time. We swept San Jose State both times this year. I don't have any worries about the match tonight but that isn't going to stop me from lighting a couple of candles and throwing salt over my shoulder. Why? In the words of my all time favorite TV show, The West Wing - I don't want to tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing. (For reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4rigI3FkwE ). If I did, I'd have to go outside, turn three times and spit. I get dizzy too quickly.
