The Daily Aggie :: 05/02/08

The Aggie baseball and softball teams are in action today and both are in Fresno, CA. The Aggie softball team begins it's final conference series of the 2008 season. Fresno State is currently ranked #9 in the country and are in second place just one game behind Nevada for first place. The Aggies are 7-8 and in fourth place in the league. This is an important series for both teams as the Aggies are trying to secure a top half seed while the Bulldogs are shooting for a regular season title. The Aggies also want to avoid dropping to the 6-seed as they would have to face either the 1-seed or the 2-seed in the first round. Also of interest, Jeff Davis of the Fresno Bee reports that Fresno State's ace Robin Mackin will not be returning to the Bulldogs next season. Usually when a player decides to transfer, it isn't reported until the end of the season. How will this affect the Bulldogs against the Aggies this weekend? Will it provide enough of a distraction to let the Aggies steal a couple games? We shall see. Tonight's game begins at 7:00 p.m. and you can follow all the action via Gametracker through the Fresno State athletic website.

The Aggie baseball team is coming off their sweep of Sacramento State last weekend and is looking to continue to gain momentum. It will be a tough task as they face first place Fresno State this weekend. The Aggies were swept just a couple weeks ago by the Bulldogs in Las Cruces, however, the Aggies did have a victory over Fresno State in Fresno back in the middle of March. As we mentioned earlier in the week here, if the Aggies can get a split of this series it would go a long way towards the Aggies finishing in the top half of the league. Today's game begins at 7:00 p.m. and you can listen to all of the action on KSNM AM 570 in Las Cruces, streaming audio is also available via Aggie Access (subscription required) and of course you can follow the action via Gametracker through the Fresno State athletic website.

Finally, coming on Monday will be the first installment of our new monthly interview segment with NMSU Athletics Director McKinley Boston. We're inviting bleedCrimson.net readers to send in questions they'd like to be answered by Dr. Boston and we'll pick the best questions (the number of questions depends on time constraints of the interview) and do our best to have them answered. Obviously the first segment is closed but to submit a question for the next interview visit the Contact Us page and select 'The Daily Aggie' from the dropdown and submit your question. Be on the lookout for that on Monday.
