The Daily Aggie :: 03/21/08

The Aggie baseball team opened up the conference season with a 7-6 victory yesterday over San Jose State. The Aggies committed five errors but still pulled out the one run victory. Tyler Sturdevant went six innings giving up three hits, five runs of which one was earned and four walks to pick up the win. The Aggies return to action today at 3:05 p.m. for the first of a doubleheader with the Spartans. You can follow the action through Aggie Access with streaming audio and video (subscription required), on the radio on KSNM AM 570 (Las Cruces only) or via Live Stats through the NMSU athletic website.

The Aggie softball team split a pair of games with Loyola Marymount yesterday. The Aggies snapped the Lions' seven game win streak by winning game one 2-1 but fell 1-0 in the second game. Kim Watson went the distance in game one for the victory while Vanessa Fitzgerald went 3 2/3 innings to pick up the loss for the Aggies in game two. The Aggies return to action on Monday when they take on nationally ranked conference opponent Hawai'i on the islands.

After the first 16 games of the tournament have been completed, there's a two way tie for the lead in the bleedCrimson.net Bracket Challenge group. Two people correctly picked 15 the first 16 games correctly. There is a three way tie for second with people who picked 14 of 16 correctly, including The Official Wife of the Daily Aggie. As for The Daily Aggie? We're just hoping we don't lose any more Elite Eight participants today (THANKS ALOT USC... jerks).
