The Daily Aggie :: 03/20/08

It's time for the craziness that is the NCAA Tournament. You have just a short amount of time left to join our ESPN Bracket Challenge group.

While both Aggie basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end shorter than everyone hoped and expected, there's still plenty of activity around Aggie Country. Yesterday volleyball coach Mike Jordan announced the signing of a transfer from Georgia Tech, middle hitter Erin Burmingham and this morning head football coach Hal Mumme announced the signing of a 6'1" wide receiver out of Florida, Darrius Preston.

Be sure to check out our season ending interview with Coach Spence. We discussed the final two games of the WAC Tournament, his feelings on getting screwed out of the tournament (our words, not his, but awfully close), the future of the Aggie women's basketball program and most importantly, how things were progressing in getting Coach a contract extension. As you may or may not now, this is the final year of Coach's contract and he told us that he fully expects to be here for the long haul. Good news indeed. The Aggies have improved immensely over the course of his five seasons at NMSU and you'd be hard pressed to find another coach as good as he is to come in and replace him. Since joining the WAC the Aggies have gone from 10 wins, to 13 wins, to 23 wins and his coaching record prior to NMSU speaks for itself (317-80 in 12 seasons).

The Aggie baseball team is in action today against league leading San Jose State. This is the conference opener for the Aggies and the first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. You can follow all the action on Aggie Access with streaming audio and video (subscription required) and of course via LiveStats through the NMSU athletic website.
